to One Fell Swoop
Nothing is known about Calvin's life before the apocalypse.
Nothing is known about what happened to Calvin during the early days of the apocalypse. At some point, he ended up at Midway, a town situated on a rooftop of an old mall. Calvin was one of the original residents, and to begin with they started out armed with just kitchen knives and camping out in sleeping bags.
Calvin is first seen when he and Rachel introduce themselves to Georgie Rutherford, a new arrival at Midway. Georgie also introduces herself and tells them that Beatrice, the young girl with her, isn't her daughter, but the daughter of a friend. Rachel asks how she's settling in. Georgie responds that it's a little surreal. Rachel tells her that everybody thinks that to begin with. They also mention that to begin with, the town was nothing but an empty rooftop with Calvin, Donna, and several others camping out in sleeping tents and armed with kitchen knives. Rachel apologises to Georgie upon realising they've been talking at her. Georgie tells them it's fine, she's just worried about her group as there's a lot of them yet only she and Beatrice are accounted for so far. She insists her friends are alive when Calvin mentions how dangerous it is out there. Georgie then excuses herself and declines an offer from Rachel to watch Beatrice, as Donna enters and tells Georgie that Henry wants to speak to her.
Later that day, Georgie and Beatrice are sat with Calvin, who asks Georgie how she's settling in. She tells him well, and that the people she has spoken to are nice, but everybody else tends to keep to themselves. He assures her that the people are great once you get to know them. Calvin tells Georgie he's glad Henry brought her to town. She thanks him, and says she's glad too.
Georgie and Calvin continue to get to know each other a little better. She reveals that she used to work in a comic book store and preferred The X-Men to The Avengers, whilst Calvin preferred the latter. Annette then comes over and jokingly asks the two if they're done flirting. When they insist they're not, she then kids "And I'm Madonna." She then asks Calvin to help her out with the gardening. Georgie jokes that she will watch and observe Calvin to see if he's doing a good job.
After Georgie's friends Shiro, Aimi, Sean, Javier and Jai arrive at Midway, the community are woken in the middle of the night by a large horde of zombies. After they're taking care of, Calvin, Georgie, Shiro, Aimi, Shiloh and Javier agree to Drew's invite to a nearby pub.
Drew welcomes Georgie and the others as they arrive at the pub. Bickering ensues but Javier asks if they can put everything to one side and enjoy themselves. Calvin agrees, and gets in the first round. As Javier plays darts and Drew spends time alone in a room adjacent to the main area of the pub, the others decide to play a game of I Never, where various secrets and facts are revealed, including Calvin being a virgin and Georgie and Aimi having smoked weed, whilst Shiro never tried it.
The game turns nasty when it's asked if anyone's ever killed a human being. Georgie admits to her role in Ken's death whilst Shiro comes clean about Sid. Aimi tries to use the opportunity to discover who else Shiro killed, as he mentioned that Sid wasn't his first victim on the night it happened. Shiro refuses to talk about it, but Aimi is insistent. Angered, Shiro tells her that he didn't tell her about it as Ollie asked him not to: as he killed a person the same time Shiro did. Aimi is very upset by this and storms out. Georgie scolds Shiro for bringing up Ollie, and he also gets up from the table and walks away. Calvin and Georgie decide to leave, after Calvin tells Georgie he likes her and would like to spend more time with her, and she tells him she would like that.
The following morning, Henry scolds the group for getting drunk, which he describes as counter-productive and idiotic.
Calvin joins Shiloh and Donna in eating some of Georgie's cake she made from Annette's recipe.
Later, Calvin and the community are saddened to discover that Annette has passed away in her sleep. When Sean tries to get past Calvin, who's on guard, to go to the pub, Calvin tries to talk him round. Sean punches him and leaves. Georgie checks on Calvin, who insists he's fine.
The following day, Calvin attends Annette's funeral with many other residents of Midway, but the service is gatecrashed by Sean. Jai eventually knocks him out to stop things from escalating further.
Sometime after, Calvin approaches Georgie and asks what's troubling her. She admits she's embarrassed by Sean's behaviour. Calvin explains that Sean is a sick man and that it's the alcohol which is causing his actions. Georgie says she hopes Calvin and the others don't think any less of her group. He insists they don't and says that Georgie is quite a hit with people, most of all him. He then feels awkward and begins to mumble and Georgie silences him by kissing him on the lips. She then tells him to learn when to stop talking.
Two days on from Sean's banishment, a meeting is planned between Midway and Victoria to discuss the release of Drew, who has been take prisoner. Georgie tells Calvin he doesn't have to stay with her and can go along to the meeting if he wants. He says he'd like to stay behind and be with her, which touches Georgie.
Later, Calvin asks Georgie if she minds watching Beatrice all the time. She says she did to begin with as she didn't want the responsibility but she has fallen in love with her and would die a thousand times over to stop her from getting hurt. Calvin says that's why he likes her so much, which makes Georgie smile coyly. Just then, Donna approaches them and says things are too quiet for her liking. The trio then realise that the pub where Sean was last known to be located is on fire.
Calvin, Georgie, and Donna approach the pub with guns. When they see Sean, they raise their guns, in fear of him unwillingly being involved in some sort of trap. They lower their weapons when he says he's alone and he started the fire. They are furious by what he did, but he explains he did it to lure their attention as they need to get to Summerlyn to warn Peter about a potential plan to kill him, which Sean heard two of Alexis's men, who were scouting Midway, talk about as they walked past the pub. Donna asks why he's waited so long to warn them and he tells her he tripped and knocked himself out. Georgie assures Donna she and the others can protect Midway but she needs to go. Donna and Sean head off.
Georgie decides to put a irritable Beatrice down for a nap. Calvin asks if she's worried and she admits she was so relieved when Peter first turned up at Midway as she knew he would be around for Beatrice. Calvin tells her if something was to happen to Peter then it would be awful but she would be there for Beatrice. Georgie remarks "for how long?" which confuses Calvin and he asks what she means. She walks away without answering. Later, when the others return, they discover Sean has died. Calvin tries to make Georgie feel better by reminding her that he died a hero.
The following day, Calvin attends Sean's funeral.
Almost four months later, Midway has grown substantially and Calvin and Georgie share a hut together. Calvin becomes suspicious Georgie is keeping something from him. He grows even more curious after witnessing Shiro and Aimi deliver bad news to Georgie after coming home from a supply run.
Calvin confronts Georgie. He swears they are over if she lies to him. She tells him she has diabetes. Calvin is frustrated Georgie didn't tell him and is hurt when she says she was worried he would leave her, as he wonders if she really thinks he's the sort of guy who would do that. Georgie says the past few months they've spent together have been amazing and she just wanted to push her illness to the back of her head and enjoy life. Calvin says he's going to do whatever he can to support her and agrees to help when she says Jai is helping her create a special diet to keep her diabetes in check. Calvin says he loves her for the first time. She says it back.
As Angie heads off with a group to go on a supply-run to a warehouse, Calvin jokes with her about bringing back his favourite food. After they leave, Henry tells Calvin he is worried. Calvin tries to assure him and says they're a tough group and they'll be back soon. Henry asks when does anything as good as the food warehouse come without a cost. Calvin suggests that today it might. When the group return later, Angie teases Calvin and says they ate all the cookies on the drive home.
Calvin asks Georgie how she is, but she tells him to stop fussing. He asks if she has felt faint or had any numbness since stopping her medicine. Georgie angrily leaves their hut. Later, Calvin makes it clear he isn't going to apologise for worrying about her because he loves her. Georgie affectionately calls him an idiot. He says he knows he is, but she's an idiot too. He asks if she can honestly say she wouldn't be doing the same as him if the shoe was on the other foot. She admits he's probably right. He says they can be idiots, but they should refrain from bei ng hypocritical ones.
When Peter's wife, Lorna, arrives at Midway and rushes into Georgie and Calvin's hut after a confrontation, she wakes the couple up. Georgie tells Calvin to get some breakfast as she and Lorna need to catch-up. Sometime after, Angie follows Peter when he walks off after getting upset about Lorna. Javier says he'll have a breakfast alone then. Calvin invites him to sit with him, but Javier leaves. Calvin remarks it's like high school all over again. Soon after, Calvin spots Lorna helping Georgie out of the hut after taking a turn for the worse because she hasn't ate. Calvin rushes to get her breakfast as Jai tends to her.
Georgie is furious that Peter and the others are going to meet with Noah's community to come up with a trade for medicine. She insists they're not risking her life for her, but they tell her they're going. She insists on going along, but Peter and Aimi talk her down. Henry shares his concerns with Calvin, and wonders whether Noah can be trusted. Calvin makes it clear he and the others will be going regardless, causing Henry to relent. Georgie says goodbye to Calvin before he leaves. During the meeting, Blaine Monteghue ambushes the two groups from afar and opens fire, killing Calvin, just as he is shouting at Noah for calling off the meeting.
Calvin and Dwayne are buried the day after their deaths. Calvin's murder inspires Georgie to ask Donna to teach her how to shoot so she can get avenge him.
Georgie takes part in a final battle between the survivors from Midway and Blaine's group. Georgie confronts a wounded Blaine and tells him about Calvin. She says because of him she never get the chance to tell Calvin she was carrying his baby. She then shoots Blaine in the head, finishing him off for a good and avenging her dead boyfriend.
Calvin also appears briefly in an opening flashback scene where he and Shiro discuss the expansion of Midway.
