"Still, In Summerlyn" is the tenth episode of season one of The Last Ones. It was published for the first time on May 31st 2015.
Plot[]
When Eli begins recruiting survivors to his fold, he gets more than he bargained for with one individual in particular. Meanwhile, Alexis and Vicky live rough in Summerlyn City, until Alexis discovers a secret of Vicky's that could potentially hold great promise for their future.
Synopsis[]
As Eli makes his way to a beach, flashbacks appear where we see his assault on Javier and his friends after they grouped together to discuss what to do regarding Eli and his atrocities. As they decide to kill him, bullets propel through the survivors and kill all of them, with the exception of Javier.
In the present, Eli arrives at a campsite ran by survivors Big Pete, Cassie and Joel, who treat him with apprehension and hostility. He tries to assure them that he means no harm, but Big Pete holds him at gunpoint and they demand to know what he wants with them. When they continue to suspect him, Big Pete whistles and calls out for Jesse. Just then, a young man jumps down from a nearby palm tree, grabs Eli from behind and puts a knife to his throat.
Hiding from a large group of zombies in a garage deep in the city, Alexis and Victoria discuss their next move. Alexis says that they will wait until the undead moves on elsewhere before they move out. The two then press each other and Alexis demands to know the real reason why Victoria defied Angie's offer and remained in the city. She eventually confesses that her father had a housing complex being built at the start of the outbreak and that the construction walls still surrounded the perimeter, and as such, would be a perfect place for a safe haven if it was free of zombies and people. Alexis is excited and surprised by the prospect and decides to help Victoria search. Victoria then demands to know where Alexis got the gun she's currently holding. Alexis coldly and nonchalantly responds by telling Victoria she stole it from someone who won't be needing it.
Back the beach, Eli continues to attempt to calm the strangers down. He tells them he has a safe base and that he approached them to try and see if they wanted to join his group. Big Pete and Jesse eventually back off and after more persuasion they agree to accompany Eli to check the place out. Jesse, however, remains wary.
Alexis and Victoria begin their search to find the compound. When Alexis continues to be cruel and mocking, Victoria tells her to stop being mean, but that only seems to make Alexis more irritable. When they spot a zombie on the same bridge, Alexis refuses to deal with it and instead insists that Victoria step up to the plate and kill one for the first time. Victoria goes to do it, but quickly chickens out, however the zombie grabs her and pulls her to the floor. Victoria screams for Alexis to help, but she just stands and watches coldly.
At Eli's swimming center base, Amar approaches Sid who is watching over a horde of zombies in the distance. Amar asks if there's any sign of Eli, who left the center some time previously in order to search for some recruits to their group. The two men speculate on what Eli might have planned, but Sid glances towards the growing number of undead and mentions that they might need all the help they can get in order to survive.
At the same time, Eli closes in on the base with his new recruits. They eventually realise that Jesse has vanished. Jesse is then seen climbing a tree and making his way into the base alone, where he infiltrates the center and checks out Eli's people. He makes his way downstairs where he regroups with Eli and his friends. Cassie berates him for being sneaky, but Eli doesn't appear to be cross. He is instead seemingly impressed by his skills and asks for Jesse's help in tracking down Alexis and Victoria, whom he describes as friends. Jesse agrees to carry out the favour.
At the edge of Summerlyn City's river, Alexis tries to talk to Victoria, who is furious for almost getting her killed. Alexis points out that she managed to take out the zombie eventually without her help, but Victoria is still cross. The two then have a fiery row, where Victoria admits that she's puzzled by Alexis's coldness and how she acts as if her husband, Stephen, never existed. This visibly angers Alexis, who tells Victoria to shut up, but the two continue to argue. They then stop rowing and move out to continue their search. Unbeknownst to them, Jesse watches them from the trees above.
Eventually, the two women find the compound and an excited Victoria gets them inside. Alexis is in shock to see the incredible and safe housing complex in front of her, which now belongs to just them.
Eli checks on Big Pete, Cassie and Joel, who are incredibly grateful and in awe of the safe base. Upon bidding the trio goodnight, Eli leaves to chat with Amar and Sid and confides in them about Jesse, and how he could be a threat as he doesn't appear to be willing to join them. Just then, Jesse appears from out of no where. Big Pete, Cassie and Joel come over to welcome Jesse back. He then tells Eli that he found Alexis and Victoria and that the two are now living in a housing complex. Jesse becomes suspicious that Eli means the women harm, so he begs his friends to leave with him as Eli cannot be trusted. When they refuse, Eli turns around and picks up his gun, but when he turns back around, he finds Jesse to be absent. He is then seen sprinting from the compound and Big Pete remarks that he'll never be caught. Eli watches as Jesse flees.
Sometime after, Alexis and Victoria finish searching the housing complex and are in amazed by how lucky they are. The two women then apologise to each other. Alexis then comments that they've discovered a goldmine. They remain unaware that watching from the roof of a building from afar, is Eli.
