Luke is a recurring character and survivor in The Last Ones. He makes his first appearance as a newcomer to Victoria, the housing complex. Since then, he has been shown as a kind and compassionate young man who cares deeply about his friends and younger brother.

Pre-Apocalypse

Details about Luke's early life before the apocalypse are relatively unknown. Although he did likely have a happy life with his mother and younger brother, Daniel. He may have lived and worked in Summerlyn City.

Post Apocalypse

Season One

Pre-Appearance

Sometime after the undead outbreak, Luke and Daniel lost their mother and eventually joined a group of survivors consisting of Bernadette, Jasmin, Shannon and quite possibly some other unnamed people who didn't make it. Eventually, the group were rescued by Derrick, who picked them up in a bus he affectionately nicknamed Brenda. The bus eventually broke down and the group spent several weeks living inside of it.

The Olive Branch

Luke's group stumble upon a housing complex. They ask one of the guards, Jenson, if they can join. They agree to hand over weapons and are welcomed by the leader Alexis Norton. She insists they undergo private individual strip-searches by Richard Coleman, the resident doctor, in order to ensure none of them have been bit. The new arrivals seem taken aback but agree.

Upon passing the searches, Coleman settles them in. Luke jokes the house seems like paradise after spending the past two weeks in a broken down bus. Derrick jokingly takes offence, reminding them that he was driving that bus when he picked them up. Derrick tells Bernadette she treated Coleman harshly, but she remains wary of the community. Luke wishes they could have found the safe-place earlier and Daniel says their mother might still be alive. Bernadette tells them that they can't do what-if's as they have done the best they can. The group join the other survivors as they gather for Alexis to make a speech. She says they have been given a unbelievable blessing by being able to live in a safe place. She expresses her desire for the community to thrive and expand. She reveals the complex will be given the name Victoria, after her late friend.

The Choice

Luke appears briefly in the background alongside Bernadette as they push Daniel and Shannon on the swings as Alexis looks out over her complex.

Dead Man's Trigger

When the community is put under threat by Eli Loche and there are discussions of a bomb being planted nearby, Luke and Jasmin panic and threaten to leave, citing the fact they have children with them. They are calmed down by Steph and by the news that the bomb has been safely defused.

Season Two

Old Friends, New Enemies

The night of Eli's death, Luke volunteers and gives blood to Bobby de Luca, a survivor who was shot upon approaching the complex as Steph mistook him for one of Eli's men.

The following day, Luke gives Bernadette a piece of his mind upon discovering that she is using Daniel as part of her "mind-games" and he insists in future that she leave him out of it. Bernadette insists he's overreacting, but Luke is adamant. Bernadette agrees, but asks Luke for a favour; she wants him to talk to Derrick and try and talk him out of his plans to take over from Alexis. Luke refuses, and claims he doesn't have to do anything she says anymore.

That night at the feast, Derrick's coup takes place, with him are Jasmin, Tariq and Jason, and all of them have their weapons raised at Alexis. Both Luke and Coleman intervene but they back down when Derrick threatens the latter with a gun and the former is beaten by Jason and Tariq when he refuses to step aside. Eventually, the situation is resolved and control is given back to Alexis, when Jenson, with Matt and an unnamed survivor by his side, shoots and kills Derrick. Alexis then makes it clear to the residents that whilst Victoria can be home to everybody, Victoria is hers.

In Sickness and In Health...

The following morning, Bernadette breaks the news of Derrick's death to Daniel and Shannon, including the detail that he was shot, much to Luke's disapproval. She then explains that Derrick was being bad and that Alexis was left with no choice but to kill him. When Daniel complains that he no longer wants to eat his breakfast, Bernadette talks him round, which seems to irritate Luke.

Sometime later, Luke and Bernadette watch as Daniel and Shannon play without a care in the world. Luke worries they're growing cold, but Bernadette points out they're just growing used to losing people. Luke brings up Derrick and says even though what he did was wrong, he still didn't want him to die, as he thought they were friends after everything they went through together. Bernadette tells Luke that people change, now more so than ever. Luke then accuses Bernadette of warning Alexis about Derrick's coup attempt, thus causing his death. Even though it's true, Bernadette acts appalled and states she loved Derrick as a son and asks Luke how he could ever accuse her of such a thing. Luke apologises but Bernadette ignores him and tells Daniel and Shannon it's time to go home.

... Until Death Parts Us

Later, Bobby thanks Luke for giving him blood when he was shot, thus saving his life. Luke says it's nothing and that he's sure Bobby would do the same for him. Bobby says "For a stranger? With the way things are now? Probably not. That’s why I’m so touched by what you did." Just then, Jasmin enters the room, but walks away without speaking when Luke asks how she is. He explains to Bobby that she just lost someone close to her. Charlotte then walks inside and Bobby introduces her to Luke. She explains that Michael almost got her killed, much to Bobby's shock. Charlotte now says she knows why Alexis wanted her and Bobby to help Michael with his experiments: she wants them dead. Luke asks if she's talking about Alexis, and he agrees she can't be trusted. Bobby asks Charlotte what they should do, but she tells him she needs to think.

Welcome to Midway

During the night, Bobby wakes Charlotte and the two head into the kitchen to chat. She guesses that he's decided to leave the complex. He confirms this and states he's going in the morning. He tells her he needs to get back to camp, as Angie must be out of her mind with worry. Bobby apologies, but Charlotte tells him it's all right. He then goes back to bed. Luke then appears in the kitchen and tells Charlotte he couldn't help but overhear. He asks why Charlotte can't leave with Bobby. She tells him she wouldn't be welcome, but declines to explain when Luke asks why. She goes to head to bed, but Luke assures Charlotte that no matter what, he will be there for her. She is touched by this. The pair then bid each other goodnight, unaware that Bernadette was around the corner, listening.

Sometime after, Bernadette wakes Luke and angrily confronts him for promising Charlotte his allegiance. Luke defends himself and insists he hasn't done anything wrong. Bernadette accuses him of having a crush, but Luke denies this. Bernadette makes it clear to Luke that their group should come first. Luke accuses her of hypocrisy considering she got Derrick killed. He tells her not to bother denying it and then walks away, leaving Bernadette reeling.

The next morning, Bobby says farewell to Charlotte, who is sad to see him go. The two hug before he leaves and they both say they'll miss each other. Once he's gone, Luke asks Charlotte if she's OK. She tells him she has to be. Sometime after, Charlotte and Luke sit and talk, where Charlotte insists she's fine but she's just going to miss Bobby. Luke tells Charlotte he meant what he said to her the night before, and he doesn't care what Bernadette thinks. Just then, they spot Bobby returning to the complex and rush over to greet him. Charlotte apologies to Bobby when he reveals that the camp was abandoned and that the others are gone.

El Lobo Solitario

Alexis and Michael visit Charlotte and Bobby, who explain that they want Luke to come out with them when they assist Michael for extra protection. Michael, Charlotte, Bobby and Luke take the zombie Michael's been keeping alive to the woods by Summerlyn to conduct an experiment. They gather round in a square shape as Charlotte restrains the zombie. She then releases it and it begins to walk directly ahead, where Luke is standing. Luke remains still and doesn't make a sound. Charlotte, however, raises her voice and yells for the zombie to take attention. To everyone's surprise, it turns away from Luke and begins walking to Charlotte. The group try it again. Charlotte remains silent and motionless as Bobby calls for it. The zombie once again moves on from Charlotte and heads to Bobby. Michael is amazed.

Charlotte tells Michael that what they found out changes everything. When asked about the zombie they're keeping alive, Michael explains that he is the most important as they can tell if his behaviour alters at all and everything they do in the future will involve him. As he said this, an oblivious Luke kills it. He looks at an annoyed Michael and a mildly amused Charlotte and realises he has messed up. Luke apologises to Michael, who calms down after being angered.

Trojan

Coleman takes Lydia-Jean and introduces her to Luke, Charlotte, Bobby, and Bernadette, whom Alexis has tasked her with befriending. Bernadette is more than pleased to have her and asks Coleman to tell Alexis that she is more than happy to help. Coleman then leaves. The group get to know Lydia-Jean and they're impressed she survived on her own for a few weeks. Jasmin then enters the living room alongside Tariq, who stayed the night. Luke is outraged to discover they're romantically involved after Tariq beat Luke to a pulp during Derrick's failed coup. Tariq departs and Luke and Jasmin argue bitterly, with Luke accusing Jasmin of moving on quickly for someone who spent so long crying over Derrick.

Trouble Brewing

The following day, Luke, Charlotte, Bobby and Lydia-Jean watch Catelyn and Zahra enter the complex, the latter of whom Bobby describes as creepy.

When Bernadette is chosen to be a member of Alexis's new council, Luke congrats Bernadette. She gleefully tells him that Alexis's days of leading are numbered. She then remarks how Derrick could be going home to eat dinner with them rather than lying dead in a ditch if he had been wise enough to listen to her.

Later, Lydia-Jean tells Luke the good news that they might become supply runners for the town. Luke is happy about this but tells her it might just be them two as Charlotte and Bobby have said they're going to take out the undead in Michael's lab. Lydia-Jean is horrified and hurries from the house, shouting to Luke that they need to stop them. Alexis has Charlotte and Bobby under arrest. Luke approaches Lydia-Jean as vocally rants about Alexis to herself, where she says she will indeed support Lorna and let her into the complex. Luke is confused. Lydia-Jean says "Let’s go back home. I’ll tell you everything."

Last Orders

Whilst out on a supply-run for Victoria, Lydia-Jean and Luke meet with Lorna, whom Lydia-Jean is secretly working for. Lydia-Jean tells her Alexis is having a meeting with another group of survivors and that all eyes will be on them so it will be a perfect opportunity for her to sneak in. Luke expresses his unhappiness and says he has people in the complex he cares about. Lorna makes it clear she only intends to harm Alexis.

Having returned from their run, Lydia-Jean reminds him it's just Alexis Lorna plans to hurt. Luke is confused and berates Lydia-Jean for trusting Lorna after only knowing her for a few days. After witnessing Lorna let in dozens of undead into Victoria, Luke angrily says "So, it’s just Alexis she wants to hurt, is it!?" The two are later shocked when Javier and Angie, Bobby's sister, rush into their house looking for Bobby. Luke is hesitant to leave until Lydia-Jean says that they need to get out while they can. Luke says he'll fetch Jasmin and the kids and catch-up with them. Sometime after, Luke goes to leave with the kids as Bernadette arrives and tries to persuade him. Bernadette lies and says she saw the bodies of Charlotte, Bobby, and Lydia-Jean outside. Luke is devastated. She then says the undead are making their way to the houses so they need to hide upstairs. An upset Luke only listens when Daniel begs him to come up.

The Stand

Bernadette finds Luke looking at what's happening outside and worries he might discover that she lied and told him Charlotte, Bobby, and Lydia-Jean had died so he would stay in Victoria with her. She tells him if he sees their bodies it will stay with him for life and he should go rest. Luke later realises Bernadette lied. He tells Jasmin if Bernadette wants to play mind-games then he's going to play them right back.

Luke goes to Alexis and warns her about Bernadette's plan to overthrow her, but Alexis claims she doesn't care as she the one person she truly cared about, Michael, is gone. Luke says he barely knew Michael but he knows how much he believed in Alexis. He then admits he doesn't like her much, but the alternative to her is Bernadette, whom he describes as a psychotic witch. He asks Alexis if she really wants to lose Victoria to Bernadette after how far she has taken the town. He suggests she find Blaine and his people as they previously offered to work for her. Alexis asks Luke why he's helping her. He says he wants to watch her wipe the smile from Bernadette's face.

Seconds Out

The following day, Bernadette is thrilled by Alexis's absence and is confident she will be ousted as leader. When Luke expresses his desire to attend the funerals, Bernadette convinces him not to. That night, Bernadette is chosen as leader of the community just moments before Blaine and his people enter, declaring Victoria a dictatorship and that what Alexis says goes. Bernadette is upset and is further devastated and shocked to discover Luke gave Alexis a heads up. Luke admits to Jasmin he didn't realise things with Blaine would turn out the way they have. He suggests they be law-abiding citizens for a while before getting out of dodge.

Stranger at the Door

Almost four months on, a feast is planned to celebrate the birth of Catelyn's baby. Luke and Jasmin speculate on whether Bernadette will show her face as she has hidden herself away since leadership was taken from her. Jasmin admits she gets satisfaction from seeing Bernadette so defeated. They are unaware Bernadette overheard the conversation. Later, they attend the feast and are surprised when Bernadette turns up. She attempts to make things right with Alexis, but Luke and Jasmin doubt she's being genuine.

No Democracy

Bernadette is infuriated when Blaine brazenly has Paul beaten to a pulp in the middle of the town as a punishment for stealing. Bernadette suggests to several residents that they break-out that night and cites her belief that Blaine will take over from Alexis eventually as a reason for doing so. Luke, Jasmin and Tariq agree but Catelyn refuses. Bernadette, Luke, and Tariq then pay Catelyn another visit and try and persuade her and Trudy to join. They refuse until Jasmin arrives and tells them Blaine has kidnapped Shannon and taken her to an unknown location. Luke is insistent on not going without her, but Bernadette says they have no choice as they will use her as leverage if they stay. The others agree to join.

The group enact their plan at nightfall, but some things go wrong and Catelyn is shot. Catelyn and Trudy tell Luke to go and leave them before they're captured, and he reluctantly does. Luke finds Bernadette and Daniel. Bernadette manages to convince Jenson to let them out. The three of them are the only ones to escape. As they run through the city, they bump into Noah, who is heading to visit Alexis. Luke knocks him out.

Let No Man Put Asunder

On the road after escaping Victoria and finding a car, Luke tells Bernadette he found a reanimated Shannon on the side of the road as Blaine must have abandoned her. Luke says he put her out of his misery. Bernadette is devastated. Hours later, the trio come across Charlotte, Bobby, Lydia-Jean, and Shiloh in the woods and are troubled to discover Alexis and Jenson are also there. Alexis tries to take them all back to Victoria, but Charlotte and the others intervene, enraging Alexis, who leaves with Jenson. Charlotte then invites Luke, Bernadette, and Daniel to Midway, and they agree. They then meet the leader Henry, who agrees to welcome them in.

After settling in, Bernadette admits to Luke that she killed Tariq. Luke is horrified and says Blaine might have killed Jasmin after what happened. He says Bernadette could have shot the wall or ground just as easily if she wanted to lure Blaine away from the gate. Bernadette is angry and says she is astounded by Luke's ungratefulness. She shocks Luke by saying he should thank her for what she did.

One Fell Swoop

Luke is thrilled when Jasmin turns up at Midway, claiming that Alexis let her go. She tries to talk him out of going to an upcoming meeting between Midway and Noah Ashby's community, but he tells her he already promised Charlotte he would go. He is sad to hear that Catelyn passed away and Alexis is raising the baby. Soon after, Luke gets to know Aimi Kato and the two decide to have a drink together sometime. Luke approaches Bernadette, who wrongly believes he has changed his mind about not speaking to her again. He makes it clear that is not the case and says he is demanding she not tell Jasmin and Daniel about Shannon's death. Bernadette believes what happened to Shannon shouldn't be kept secret, but agrees not to say anything.

During the meeting, Blaine ambushes the two groups from afar and opens fire, killing Calvin, and wounding Angie, Shiloh, and Dwayne. Everyone scatters into different directions. Luke, Shiro, Aimi, Jai, Drew, and Lorna escape but are found again by Blaine, who fires at them. Aimi is seriously injured. Before she dies, Aimi says an emotional goodbye to the group. She says to Luke she was looking forward to their drink. He says he was, too. Later that night, Henry gathers the residents and angrily tells them about what happened. He says they will kill Alexis for what she did.

Significant Sayonora

Luke picks up on Jasmin acting distant, but she grows short with him and asks for some space. As Luke plays with Ben, Bernadette approaches and says she believes Jasmin has been compromised by Alexis and is working for her and Blaine. Luke is furious and asks if Bernadette really hates Jasmin that much. Bernadette tells him it's not that and something isn't right, but he refuses to hear it and tells her to stay away from him, Jasmin, and Daniel. Later, Luke joins the residents and attends Aimi's funeral.

Now. Before. After.

Bernadette suspicions over Jasmin grow over the course of the next few days and Luke, realising Bernadette may have been right, approaches her for advice on what to do. Luke is upset at the possibility of Jasmin's betrayal as he believed she cared about him and Daniel. Bernadette says she may have made a deal to protect them both. Luke admits Jasmin asked him not to go the meeting. Bernadette tells him she will handle Jasmin. The following day, Bernadette and Luke confront Jasmin, who is horrified to discover Shannon is actually dead. She rushes to leave town to try and stop Blaine from going through with their plan. Luke chases Jasmin and upon realising that something is imminent, he rushes back to try and find Daniel. After doing so, the two hurry to leave town. They are descending down the ladders when a bomb detonates, destroying Midway, killing Daniel, and severely wounding Luke. After Jasmin is killed for assisting Blaine, the survivors head to Noah's facility, taking an unconscious Luke with them.

End of This Place

Soon after arriving at Noah's facility, Bernadette asks Cecilia for an update on Luke. Cecilia says she's keeping him sedated even though his injuries aren't life threatening because of several nasty burns which means he would be in a lot of pain for a while. Bernadette says that at least he will be OK.
