to Fight For Survival
–Ollie Graham to Aimi Kato
Ollie Graham is a recurring character and survivor in The Last Ones. He was the founding member and first original leader of the main group of survivors.
Details about Ollie's early life is scarce. All is known is that he lived in the same town as Jai Patil, who was a GP for Ollie's family.
Ollie survived the initial outbreak of the apocalypse and was presumably the only member of his family to make it, as was Jai, so the two grouped together in order to survive. Upon passing a house, Ollie and Jai heard screams from inside. They rushed in and saved Aimi Kato from her mother, Yuu, who had turned and was about to attack her. They took Aimi in and agreed to help her find her estranged brother, Shiro. Sometime later, they did find Shiro and the four headed to the coast for safety. During this time, Ollie and Aimi formed a bond, where they admitted that they were glad they found each other.
Sometime after, the four survivors decided, or were forced, to leave the coast. Eventually, more people joined their group including Joy Maybell, Georgie Rutherford and married couple Henry and Karen Jones and their dog Ben.
Ollie emerged as the prominent leader of the group and after hearing that the town of Winterhodge Hollow was safe, he decided to lead the others there.
Ollie's group arrived in Winterhodge Hollow just in time to see the town begin to fall to the undead outbreak. They took refuge in the town's library. Eventually, they are joined by Peter Thompson and Sean O'Hara, two survivors from Winterhodge who had just found out about the outbreak. Ollie welcomes them to the "same boat."
After discovering that Peter is searching for his missing little boy, Milo, Ollie is one of the group members who promises to help search for the child in any way he can, which Peter appreciates. As some of the group get to know Peter and Sean, Shiro and several others arrive down from the roof, where they reveal that the situation outside is bleak. Shiro is outraged that Peter and Sean have been allowed inside and an argument erupts between him and Ollie when the former makes it clear that Peter and Sean are staying and that they will all work together to escape. Shiro storms off, but not before remarking that Ollie will get them all killed. Ollie tells the other survivors to get some sleep while he and Aimi go on watch.
The following morning, Ollie joins Peter, Jai, Henry and Sean as they assess the situation from the roof. Henry comes up with a plan, which the group execute shortly after. Sean gets things underway by shooting dead as many zombies from the roof as he can while the other survivors take it in turns to pile out in small groups and flee to Peter's house. Everything goes smoothly until just Ollie, Peter, Sean, Aimi and Georgie remain. The group run outside but upon pausing, Ollie is grabbed and bitten by the undead, much to the horror of the others watching. Ollie gives one final order as he pleads with them to get away while they still can, which they reluctantly obey.
The news of his death is given to the rest of the group as Aimi and the others arrive at Peter's house. The survivors react in sadness and shock, and Jai, in particular, is devastated.
A few days later, Aimi, who recalls a conversation she had with Ollie regarding turning into the undead, is joined by Peter and Shiro as the three return to the library in order to ensure that Ollie is taken down should he have turned. Aimi is upset to discover that Ollie did indeed reanimate after his death. Aimi then shoots and kills his zombified corpse. The somber trio then take his body back to the Thompson house for burial.
This episode also revealed that Ollie and Aimi had struck up a romantic relationship.
Ollie is given a joint funeral alongside the Thompson's friends and neighbors Gilbert and Joyce Evans. Aimi speaks about Ollie, where she thanks him for coming into her life when she most needed him to. She breaks down as she expresses her love, resulting in Shiro walking off and sitting away from the graves.
After leaving Winterhodge and stopping in the woods for the night, Shiro brings up Ollie "getting himself killed" whilst arguing with Peter, which infuriates Aimi.
Later that night, Aimi and Sean take watch as the rest of the group sleep. Aimi reveals to Sean that Ollie was the one who taught her how to shoot and that the two of them used to hide and observe how zombies act and wander, as they found it fascinating.
At the group's new camp, Aimi and Jai talk about Peter, who wandered off to search for his missing family. Aimi expresses her worry, but Jai tells her that Peter is a survivor. Aimi retorts that she used to think that about Ollie. She then mentions how much she misses him and Jai tells her that he does too.
Some weeks after his death, Shiro and Aimi fall out when Shiro reveals he and Ollie both killed someone at some point and that Ollie requested they keep it from Aimi. After they make up, Shiro is willing to talk about what he and Ollie did, Aimi refuses to hear it, and says if Ollie wanted her to be in the dark, she should be.
Ollie appears in a flashback in this episode during the early days of the apocalypse on the day Zahra became separated from the group.
Ollie is mentioned numerous times in this episode when both Aimi and Jai reflect on what he would make of them now.
Ollie appears in two flashbacks in this episode as several members of the group think back on their relationships and history with Aimi after she dies.
